We’re pretty much always looking for (easy) ways to grow our blogs, amiright? But if you’ve got a full-time job, or in school, or just generally a very busy person, you probably don’t have time throughout the week to work on growing your blog.
That’s what the weekend is for though, right? There are plenty of big things you can work on to grow your blog, but obviously those take more time. And you know what? Sometimes it’s just nice to just knock things out in one weekend. That’s why today I want to share with you 8 simple things you can do over the weekend that’ll improve and help you grow your blog!
If you haven’t started a blog yet, go here.
1. CLEAN UP YOUR PINTEREST PROFILE
Pinterest is a great way to bring traffic to your blog, but sometimes we forget to update our profile every now and again. And if you converted your personal profile into your blog’s business account, you definitely want to make sure you’ve tweaked it.
I’ll be honest, I was one of those people who just used the personal profile I already had, rather than set up a whole new account for my blog. Which of course meant I had to completely gut it and start fresh (and totally bombard my friends with random blogging posts, whoops) but now it’s become consistently my biggest source of traffic to my blog, so it’s important that my profile looks good since that’s a lot of reader’s first impressions!
If you’re not sure where to even start with creating a killer Pinterest profile for your blog, I’ve got a post over here that’ll help you out!
2. RELAUNCH OLD POSTS
I think we all know that not every blog post is going to be a game-changer for our blogs, and that’s totally alright. Sometimes though, a blog post just needs a little refining to be an amazing post. Or maybe the timing wasn’t right when you first published it.
Well, then relaunch it! Spice it up with some nice visuals, add a little more to the post, and republish it like it’s brand-new! This doesn’t take very long since you’ve got the basics of the post already done and it can bring more eyes to your blog with an old post!
3. BUILD UP YOUR STOCK PHOTO PILE
Great photos are a necessity for bloggers, no matter what you blog about. But it’s not always easy to find time to create a bunch of amazing stock photos throughout the week, which makes the weekend the perfect time to do it!
If you’re not the best photographer, then I suggest finding a bunch of stock photos for your blog online. There are tons of great websites out there that have free stock photos that you can use.
4. WRITE OUT YOUR BUSINESS PLAN
A business plan is what I like to call the road map to blogging success. If you don’t have one in place, I highly suggest taking the time to get one set up. This gives you direction with your blog, so when you don’t know what the heck you’re doing, you can refer to your business plan. If you’ve got no idea how to create one, has a great post.
If you’ve already done this, congrats on being on top of things! Then I’d take a moment to re-read your business plan and make sure you’re on track with all of your goals, and if your ideals have changed, then edit your plan.
5. INTERLINK YOUR PAST POSTS TO NEWER ONES
Sometimes we get in this mindset of ‘okay, wrote this awesome post, on to the next one!’ but we kind of forget about all of our older posts.
I’ve talked about the importance of interlinking posts before, and while it may be kind of boring, it’s crazy easy to get done in a weekend! Well, depending on just how many posts you have on your blog, anyway. If you’ve got hundreds of blog posts, I’d suggest taking a look at your most popular posts and interlinking those, rather than trying to interlink every single one (unless you’ve got the time for that!) This way, when someone is reading one of your popular posts, they can be taken to another kick-ass post of yours!
6. DRAFT OUT A BANGIN’ E-BOOK, E-COURSE, OR OTHER PRODUCT
Maybe you’ve been thinking about creating a new e-book or e-course to sell to your readers and improve their lives. Well, this weekend is the perfect time to start drafting it out! Or maybe even start a brainstorming session of what new products you can create for your readers.
Creating an e-book has always been a dream of mine, and I’ve got one in the works as we speak. My goal was to get it published by the end of this year, but lately, life has gotten really busy and I’m not sure that I’ll be able to finish it in time.
Thankfully, I’ve started using the weekend to block out time to work on it! I really want to finish it this year, but we’ll see!
7. CREATE YOUR DREAM EDITORIAL CALENDAR
If you’ve got, ya know, a life, you may not always have time to write posts every week. Ain’t nobody got time for that. That’s why you need an editorial calendar in your life.
An editorial calendar is like a secret weapon. You can use it to map out your blog’s content for the upcoming months/year. Then you can start stock-piling posts, so when you’re super busy one week you don’t have to sweat it because your post for the week is already done! It’s pretty easy to set up an editorial calendar. so you can definitely get it done in one weekend, and maybe even start working on those posts!
If you don’t know where to even start with creating an editorial calendar, I’ve got a helpful tutorial for you right here.
8. LEARN A LIL’ SOMETHIN’
If you feel like you really have most of this other stuff down, and that you blog is near perfection, try learning something new! Maybe you’re struggling to understand affiliate marketing (in which case might I suggest this amazing e-book from Ana at The She Approach). Or hey, maybe your photography skills are just not competing with other bloggers in your niche. If so, maybe you need to look into photography classes in your local area.
Ever since working full-time while blogging, the weekend has become my most productive time. It definitely nice having things I can get done in one weekend! Hopefully this list gives you ideas for other easy things you can do to grow your blog, without taking up too much time throughout the week!
